So happy to announce version 2 of dictate-button. It’s all about one thing: real-time transcription streaming.

What’s New

Instead of waiting until you finish speaking to see your text appear, you now see your words transcribed as you speak. It’s the difference between typing and watching someone else type - you’re in the moment, not waiting for it to catch up.

To make this happen, I had to make some tough choices. I reduced the number of supported languages to focus on delivering the best possible experience for the languages I do support. Check the updated supported languages list.

Besides that your dashboard got a couple of new reports.

Breaking Changes

This is a major version, which means breaking changes:

  • Simplified events: I’ve streamlined the event system to be cleaner and more predictable. Check the new event documentation to update your integration.
  • Default language: English is now the default language.
  • Language support: Fewer languages, but better experience for each one.

Bug Fix

I also shipped a quick follow-up fix for long-press mode. If you accidentally slid your finger during a long press, the transcription now stops automatically.
